How to find the Good Guys? Ever wondered how to set standards in the martial arts? The UK's Andy Morrell explains what the Martial Arts Standards Agency does, how it sets standards, how it helps teachers teach, and benefits students and teachers alike. He reveals that it is solely an agency that sets, and helps martial artists maintain good teaching standards irrespective of style, or form. It's categorically not a governing body. The standards MASA requires are 1). The teacher should hold a recognised and verifiable black belt or equivalent qualification, 2). that they have sufficient insurance for their students and themselves, 3). that they have an enhanced Criminal Records disclosure certificate, 4). that they have a current 1st Aid qualification from a recognised Health & Safety provider, 5). that they hold a relevant Coaching qualification. MASA helps martial artists through this process. Check out www.martialartstandards.org
