www.woltersworld.com The already tense is used to show two different times in the past. For example, I wanted to eat lunch with my wife, but she had already ate. Eu quis almocar com minha esposa, mas ela ja tinha comido. It is the tinha comido that is the "already" tense. It is formed with ter in the imperfect tense (tinha, tinhas, tinha, tinhamos, tinham) and the particple. For -ar verbs drop the ending and add ado, for ir and er verbs drop the er/ir and add ido.
