"Going to the ground" can be a great option for sleeping in the outdoors, IF you are prepared to be comfortable. The BEAST is a type of sleeping pad that fully integrates all our Poncho Shelter System gear into it. Check out all our gear at /WildernessInnovation.com 

The BEAST can be used stand alone, or you can add a poncho with some tent poles like in this video clip. I also snapped in my Osni Cloak right onto The BEAST making it all into my sleeping bag. You can also add our fleece liners by snapping in, you can clip in our Survival Blankets with a snap adapter. Underneath add a clip on ground cloth. We are developing a nice bug net just for use with The BEAST. 

The mesh cover on The BEAST allows full breathability for greatest comfort and warmth also in cold weather. Another function of the cover is that it's "grippy" so you won't slide off, this makes it east to roll up tight as well. 

When using tent poles you can use ours or supply your own, it is quite adjustable.
