The Queen used her traditional Christmas speech today to say Jesus's message of peace and goodwill is 'never out of date'. She also invited people to treat each other 'with respect', which many will understand as a thinly veiled comment on the toxic political climate surrounding Brexit and other contentious issues. But the 92-year-old Monarch also spoke of her personal role as a grandmother, which has kept her 'well occupied' throughout the year, and was surrounded by photographs of her family, who she called a constant 'source of personal comfort and reassurance'.
