Cristin O'Keefe Aptowicz fires up the TEDxPhilly crowd with an emotive opening to the day. Using her poetry, experiences working in a cubicle and art, Aptowicz encourages audience members to chase their most ambitious dreams. "Just be there," she says. "Don't worry about your genius." While attending NYU, Cristin O'Keefe Aptowicz, founded the NYC-Urbana Poetry Slam series, which won three National Poetry Slam championships. She has written six books and is the 2010-2011 ArtsEdge Writer-In-Residence at the University of Pennsylvania. http://aptowicz.com In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDxPhilly, where x = independently organized TED event. At our TEDxPhilly event, TEDTalks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized.
