One German soldier was killed and four were injured in Afghanistan in late April when Bundeswehr troops came under attack from Taliban forces. The Taliban have recently stepped up attacks in the northern provinces,the relatively peaceful region where the German troops are concentrated. Serving with the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force,the Bundeswehr's mission is primarily a peacekeeping one - but it's becoming increasingly dangerous.
