Putin, Modi vow to step up economic, military cooperation

Russian President Vladimir Putin met with visiting Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the Black Sea resort of Sochi on Monday. The two leaders agreed to step up economic, energy and military cooperation. Putin said trade between the two countries rose by about a fifth in 2017 and grew some 40 percent in the first months of 2018. The Russian Foreign Ministry says Russia and India will actively oppose attempts to politicize the work of the international watchdog, the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons. Modi thanked Putin for his country's support for India's inclusion into the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
