While cleaning up tree tree limbs from the harsh winter storms on a warm spring day, our Norwegian Elkhound, Shadow, was instinctively on the hunt for rodents who were stirring beneath the dry wetland grasses. Determined to catch her prize, Shadow would not listen to my commands to let the poor creature go. Although it is disturbing to witness, this is as raw and natural as it gets - predator and prey, survival of the fittest.
