Except for Colombia's sending of troops to Korea, the rest of Latinamerican nations reject the US pressure to support its intervention. The United States expresses concern over Argentina's increasing influence and unity rhetoric for the South Cone. The Korean war ends in 1953, leaving 1.3 million dead. Peron commences his strategy to consolidate an Argentina-Brazil-Chile alliance and, from this ground, build a Southamerican confederation. The Chilean president, Carlos Ibanez del Campo, is honored in Buenos Aires. May the sons of O'Higgins be welcomed in this land of San Martín, our fathers of independence who, with shared glories and traditions, bring us the embrace of our Chilean brothers, whom we consider our very countrymen since long time ago. Many may have wondered what do Argentinians want from the Chileans. What Argentinians have always craved from its brotherly nations: an unwavering brotherhood, that leads to love, that leads to sincerity and to loyalty. So that one day we can tell the world: In this side of the planet there are still men, who feel as brothers of their neighbors, of today and tomorrow. The countries' customs unity is established. Getulio Vargas, sympathetic to the idea of continental unity, reaches presidency in Brazil. He is a key person in Peron's project for the unity of Brazil, Argentina and Chile. Peron said: "Neither Argentina, Brazil, or Chile, isolated, can dream with the economic unity that is essential to face a destiny of grandeur. United we will be unconquerable. Separated, indefensible." General Peron hands the president of Paraguay, Alfredo Stroessner, the trophies grabbed during the shameful war of the Triple Alliance waged by Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay, against the heroic nation of Paraguay, and which was mainly caused by a foreign power: England. This solemn day in our history, I wish to stress the definitive and eternal unity between Paraguayans and Argentines. The nations of Paraguay and Argentina are the absolute holders of this definitive unity that we trust under God's protection, who is source of all love and all justice, of all freedom, asking humbly for it to never be violated or destroyed by the evil and hypocrite interests of selfishness and pettiness and that, on the opposite, it is permanent and eternal as is the humbleness of our nations. September 9, 1954 The Argentina-Bolivia Economic Unity Act is signed. The director of the office of American Republics Matters says: "There is danger that Argentina aspires to organize a bloc in the South Cone under its political and economic dominance" and warns that the US must isolate any effort that "might facilitate the formation of such bloc." Milton Eisenhower, brother of the US president, arrives to Buenos Aires. He forwards Peron the concern of a 'Communist infiltration in the continent', and asks him to support the formation of a solid anti-Communist bloc in the next meeting of Latinamerican countries. Back to the US, Milton Eisenhower said: "I left Buenos Aires as I arrived: empty-handed. Peron is a very complex character. We must be very alert. For our own interests, we must help the Latinamerican countries." March 21, 1954 In the Conference of American Countries in Caracas, Argentina opposes the US initiative to form an anti-Communist bloc in the continent and declares that the Communist threat does not affect the principle of self-determination of the nations. The director of the office of American Republics Matters accuses Argentina of impeding the safeguarding of "our Western and Christian civilization." Capitalism is not civilization nor is it Christian. Juan Domingo Peron All these years I have equally condemned the abuses of Communism and the abuses of Capitalism. As those two further their struggles through their mistakes, the peoples and the world are realizing that none of them will bring the solution nor the peace that human kind yearns for. Thus, all honest peoples of the world join us in our rightful stance. I have said many times that we were against any foreign imperialist policy. That is what the Argentinian people desires for all nations in the world. Am I right? Does the Argentinian nation wishes for us to be friends with all nations of humanity?
