Short video of our cat, Squeaky, who passed away two weeks ago on Tuesday (16th October). Filmed about six months ago. Admittedly she just went off and didn't come back, but given how her health had sadly been deteriorating from old age for the last few weeks and months (and coming to something of a peak in the days before her disappearance), it's not too difficult to assume that she simply went off so she could leave this world in peace. We don't know for sure how old she was; she simply started turning up regularly in our back garden back in the summer of 2007. We don't really know where she came from, either. She was admittedly a little too well-fed to be an out-and-out stray, but at the same time we never saw any lost cat posters or enquiries in the area, so her arrival was something of an enigma. But yeah, she basically wandered into our kitchen during the summer and (likely from nervousness of being in an unfamiliar area) started to meow pretty much non-stop for the duration of her stays for a good while, hence the name 'Squeaky'. Thankfully she quietened down a little after she settled down enough to decide that she wanted to move in (whether or not her relentless squeaking was a way of measuring our tolerance to her being a nuisance or not I don't know!). She'd been ill and had a few infections in the past, but always managed to get over them just fine with medicine etc. Other than that, it was generally always smooth sailing. She was a well-behaved cat. Sadly for the last few months she'd increasingly been having problems with incontinence in her old age; she was needing to drink almost constantly and subsequently using the toilet (or, frustratingly, the floor) far more frequently. Her appetite seemed to spike quite randomly in that she'd seemingly quite literally forget to eat for a couple of days before realising she was starving and gorging herself (which often then led to her being sick). Of course it's sad that she's gone, but at least she died a natural death unlike my previous cat. There's only so sad I can be when I know she lived a full life, and I'd like to think that she had a happy time with us.
