If you’ve got an employee who isn’t living up to your expectations, it may be time to evaluate your leadership style, says author and leadership expert Eric Chester. In this talk with Darren Hardy, Chester says that rather than following the “groom ‘em or broom ‘em” mantra, leaders should take time to examine why their employee lacks work ethic.

“Work ethic is knowing what to do and doing it,” Chester says. “So this individual that I’m frustrated with either doesn’t know what to do, and I need to train them, or they’re not motivated to do it. I haven’t given them the ‘why’ behind the ‘what.’ ”
