China has been Pakistan’s largest trading partner for four years in a row as well as the biggest export market and largest source of imports. However, Pakistan’s trade deficit with China further widened last year. How can Pakistan use its “Guest of Honor” status at the first China International Import Expo to explore opportunities in the Chinese market? The China International Import Expo is being held in Shanghai from November 5 to 10. Poland, one of China’s most significant partners among Central and Eastern European countries, is attending the expo with 80 companies, setting a new record for the number of Polish companies participating in an overseas exhibition. Why is Poland paying so much attention to the Chinese market? And what distinct opportunities can the two countries offer to each other? Grzegorz Kolodko, former Polish deputy premier and minister of finance, shared his views.
