Restarting mining still seems to be a dream as Goa's MP Narendra Savoikar was replied that the proposal for amendment of MMDR has still been under examination in the Ministry of Mines. Savoikar had questioned the Minister of State for Mine and Coal about government's stand on amendment of MMDR act 1957 and the time duration for the amendment. Mines Minister has stated that on expiry of the lease period, the lease shall be put up for auction as per the procedure specified in MMRD act 1957.
It may be recalled that a few days back GMPF has demanded government to produce documents involved in their effort to restart mining. They has also threatened to call for a bandh.
Meanwhile, GMPF President Puti Gaonkar has claimed that government is playing 'hide and seek'. Stating that mining auction is not feasible in Goa, he has reiterated GMPF's demand of amendment to MMDR Act. He has further demanded clarification from PM Modi on government's stand over mining issue in Goa.
