On May 2, 1939, Hermann Lang racks up his second win for Mercedes-Benz. It would be a remarkable year for the newest driver who was determined to show his teammates and the world that he deserved to be in the driver's seat. He was driving with Rudolph Caracciola, who was the team leader at Mercedes and Manfred von Brauchitsch. Both of who were, as you say, gentleman drivers and looked down their noses at poor Hermann Lang who was just basically a bloody mechanic. So he had a bit of a hard time that way, but his skill brought his through. SA 28
