Mayah is learning how to tune!

First we tuned an ukulele using an electronic tuner to set a reference point and to show Mayah that her turning of the pegs ever so slightly can affect the results on the screen of the tuner. We then used the tuned ukulele as a reference point and I encouraged Mayah to use her ear to match my notes. Mayah would make eye contact with me when she thought she had found the note and wanted my validation. By the 3rd string she showed more confidence and moved to the next string without checking in with me. Finally, we double-checked her work with the tuner and made small adjustments. I plan on using this routine with her until she develops the independence to tune by ear or tune with a tuner more quickly. Mayah's strength is her listening ability, so I plan to bank in on that.
