As we will discover later, "Justice will be done!" is Cesar's catchphrase. Fitting for his boss fight.

By there way, were you ready for a boss fight? Because we got one. And I don't mean a fight like Donk appearing as a stage's commander. DQH2 is great in that it has proper boss fights which actual phases and not just "here's an enemy officer WITH BIGGER STATS!"

For example, Cesar starts the fight coming at you with a plethora of attacks. He also has two Infernal Armors to assist him. Infernal Armors are a type we haven't seen yet, and these in particular don't have much offensive capabilities beyond basic sword swings but they have a tooon of HP and defense, and they can block to nullify all damage. I like to get them out of the way first and try to let my allies tackle Cesar. However, Cesar may end up hitting you from off screen because he has a ton of options to do so.

First, he has a basic sword hit combo that has a ton of reach due to his great sword and is surprisingly fast. And it hits hard, so one full combo from that will rinse your HP, if not kill you outright. He has a singular non-elemental shockwave attack he can send at you from afar as well but he's very unlikely to ever use this. This is because of his other moves...

Cesar is an elemental master. As such he can create an ice pillar in front of him, cause flame geysers to erupt around him, or slash the ground with a wide arcing lightning slash. All of these attacks once performed will infuse his sword with the accompanying element, increasing damage and adding the ever so deadly Freeze attribute to his ice enhancement. Freeze will, as expected, freeze you in place for a short period. In that shot period Cesar will grind you into pulp. As if that wasn't enough, he can also dispel his elemental enhancement with magical attacks. Dispelling the ice enhancement causes him to fire successive shockwaves from long range that all have a chance to freeze which each strike, on top of dealing significant damage. Dispelling fire has him leap into the air and blast high damaging fire at a long range target. Dispelling lightning causes him to summon a bolt into his sword, then slash directly in front of him for massive damage. He tends to use those moves more later when he has lower HP. He can also use Slash and summon a magic water AoE around him but this doesn't affect his sword and is just a flat out magic attack. At lower health, he can also cast Bang which is a stronger, non-elemental, magic attack with a lot of reach.

Once down to about 70% HP, Cesar will call in a horde of Bodkin Archers to fire down on you from the nearby cliff as he slashes away at you. These don't behave like normal archers and will focus fire on your selected character and have a rain of arrows constantly descending upon you. You can tell when the shots are coming by an AoE that circles your character. You probably want to deal with those guys swiftly because we really don't want any distractions for this fight.

Finally, at around 25% HP, Cesar will summon a Golem, a Hunting Mech, and several peon type monster to join the fray. If you focus your attention on the Golem or Hunting Mech they are likely to drop Monster Medals which you can then use to finish off Cesar. Or you can just focus fire on Cesar and try to blitz through his HP ASAP. You can also use the peons to build up your Tension and then unload on Cesar to try to finish the fight that way. So you have a few options on ending this fight. Cesar wasn't too hard all and all but he was definitely a difficulty increase that can catch you off guard.

After his defeat we have a lot to do in Accordia, new shops and whatnot open up and visiting the King of Accordia progresses the story with some cutscenes. After that we'll get Cesar to join our party. And the good part about Cesar joining our party is that he has ALL of the attacks he used as a boss when you yourself play as him. Needless to say, he's a pretty damn good character with a lot of solid attacks.
