Busy Intersection Gets Solar-Powered Sign

A fatal wreck brought change to a busy intersection in Cass County.

Drivers are taking notice of a solar-powered stop sign at Highways 291 and 58.

Neighbors also note a small white cross across the street. Betty Ulshafter died at the intersection on Christmas Eve.

Police said they believe Ulshafter ran the stop sign and collided with an SUV.

The solar-powered sign is meant to make sure drivers stop.

"It's got lights on it and it's flashing," one driver said.

"We saw the solar-powered stop sign, saw the cross and assumed there was a fatal wreck," another driver said.

Some drivers said they think the intersection needs more than a flashing sign.
