The Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions has asked Stanbic IBTC Bank and Zenith Bank to unfreeze two accounts linked to Patience Jonathan, the wife of Nigeria’s former President. The members of the committee queried the powers of the EFCC to serve court orders on banks, when the anti-graft agency was not part of the judiciary. The members of the panel drilled representatives of the banks who stated that they only acted on the court order mandating them to freeze the said accounts. TRK-UP-BANK REPRESENTATIVES The members of the panel criticized the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC for the continued freezing of the accounts belonging to Mrs. Jonathan, but they were particular in their criticism of the concerned banks for failing to execute the new court order vacating the order freezing the accounts. The members of the investigative panel therefore accused the banks of acting illegally. TRK-UP-Sen. Mao Ohunabunwa -Abia North,PDP TRK-UP-Sen.
