Face it, the majority of the crime is drug related in Detroit. What's left are car jackings for the most part. You'll be hard pressed to show any evidence of people going around killing people for the heck of it. I'm not saying it never happens, but it's rare. Drive around like I do. You'll find many interesting people and see how many of the people of Detroit actually live. I have news for you, 99.9% of the people you'll meet want safe neighborhoods as well. They don't want to be a victim of crime any more than you do. One thing you'll notice right away; Detroit isn't a death zone. Without constantly reporting crime in Detroit it would be slim pickings for the media. It's in their best interest to keep you scared. Look up the crime statistics in Detroit. If I casino gave you the same odds of winning and as not getting hurt or robbed in Detroit you'd gamble there every night. Start out downtown, Belle Isle and then branch out. Use common sense. Everywhere has some risk. Go to the DIA, Check out the new bridges. Go on one of the scheduled bike rides.
