In this video, I take a walk along a section of the former Devon Valley Railway. The section of the line I walked forms part of the infamous three mile stretch between Dollar and Rumbling Bridge. This part of the line is notable for being expensive to build due to the line needing to cross the Gairney Glen (https://www.flickr.com/photos/k-burn/14097408904/) and it required a significant cutting through sand. The railway between Dollar and Rumbling Bridge also happens to very steep and the gradient is very noticeable when following the former railway. The reason for choosing this part of the line was to locate the remains of the Dollar Viaduct. Today, only five masonry built pillars hint at what was the Devon Valley Railway's crowning structure so even though there isn't that much to see, you get a real sense of how landscape defining the viaduct would have been had the deck not been salvaged after the line's closure.
