For more than 2 years, 79-year-old retired Command Sergeant Major Virgil Greene has never missed a Freedom Flight at Lawson Army Airfield. Those Freedom flights leave every Friday with deploying personnel bound for service in any one of more than 30 countries around the world. Greene is there to see them off. A separate flight returns each Sunday...and Greene is there to welcome them home.
A decorated veteran himself, Greene knows just what these heroes are going through and he considers it his duty to help in anyway he can.
And as our Matt Gallup explains this can be anything from a handshake and a smile to influencing improvements on amenities and procedures.
