Side effects include buying a Maine Coon cat when you didn't intend to... ** This video shows the start of my refurbishment of a knackered old Columbus SG copy. The guitar is nice looking in that '70s kind of way' but fitted with worn out frets and pretend 'humbuckers'. And ropey old tuners...and worn out electrics. But apart from that, it's fine :-) It has some definite mojo so I thought it was worth re-fretting. That went well and despite there being no wiggle-room with the unresponsive truss rod (how common is that?) it played pretty well once the frets had been done. So far I've upgraded the tuners to Wilkinson vintage style tuners, re-radiused and re-fretted the neck, drilled out the 5 sheared off screws (4 neck screws and 1 strap button screw) which must have been loctited in. I've also cleaned up the hardware and shielded the cavities because it's fun and looks nice. Next stop along the journey will be to install some good-looking pickups. My eye was caught the other day by some humbucker-sized Warman P90s...they look the business and would make this a bit out of the ordinary. After that, I'll be re-wiring it with decent quality pots, switch and wiring and it will be ready to rock.
