This is the next autogyro I build after my GR-1. Unlike the GR-1, this does not use a swashplate to provide pitch and roll control. Control is provided by tilting a gimbal on which the entire rotor spins.

To minimize the loads felt by the servos, the blades are hinged very closely to the rotational axis of the rotor via flexible straps. These provide a simple and low friction bearing that is not affected by the centrifugal force of the blades.

These two differences provided a very different flying experience from the GR-1. Firstly the lack of control power during low G conditions, be it from gusts of wind or induced by the pilot. Secondly the controls reacted slower, with a greater time delay between control input and any reaction at the fuselage.

Unlike the GR-1 this model has a large, high pitch, geared propeller. While much more efficient than a smaller direct drive prop, these characteristics meant the propeller created a tremendous reaction torque. In order to counter this effect, the rotor had to be tilted sideways approximately 5 degrees. A side effect of this was a pitch-roll coupling that would increase the faster the aircraft flew.

Overall the model flew very nice during low wind conditions.
