A Public Interest Litigation has been filed before the High Court seeking ex parte interim relief to direct Tourism Department to stop setting up new shacks at Calangute and Candolim Beach. Main prayer of the petitioner is to direct Tourism Department to decrease number of shacks in Tourism Shack Policy 2016-2019 at Calangute and Candolim Beach. The petitioner in his petition has contended that present number of shack is more than the capacity of at Calangute and Candolim Beach.

Calangute resident Reuben Franco has filed a  Public Interest Litigation  before the High Court. The petitioner contended that Calangute and Candolim Beaches have maximum footfall of tourists and present number of beach sacks makes the tourists and general public difficult to access the beaches freely.

The petitioner has also pleaded to direct the authority to conduct fresh survey of  Calangute and Candolim Beaches and then take steps to decongest the populated areas by decreasing number of shacks.

Adjourning the hearing for 22nd November, the High Court has directed Respondent-Director of Tourism to file reply affidavit.
