This Ramadan 2015 reminder lecture by Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi discusses: 

-Story of Prophet Lut, and its significance to modern Western world's same-sex gender issues
-Allah sent Lut to a city doing many evil things
-Lut preached morality but the people didn't listen
-3 angels were sent and the people came rushing to the angels
-Lut offered his daughters, but they rejected, saying "You know what we want" 
-Allah saved Lut and his family except his wife, who was punished for supporting the people
-Anybody who believes in Qur'an extracts that it is unethical and immoral to engage in same-gender intimate acts and is unanimously forbidden in Islam [agreed upon by all major scholars] 
-Our ethical values don't change with time and place 
-As for political reality, laws of this land does not stem from religion. It is in everybody's best interest to separate church and state. 
-Hyper-sexualization, pornography, promiscuity, objectification of women and pre-marital sex are all considered immoral in Islam and unhealthy for the soul 
-Note, however, just because we consider it immoral doesn't mean we need to demonstrate animosity toward those engaging in it.
-Just because it's haram doesn't mean we have to dehumanize ones doing it
-Even if such sinners come to the Masjid, they should not be turned away
-Note, same gender intimacy does not take one out of fold of Islam (ie, they are still a Muslim)
-Even one who worships an Idol (worst sin possible) we should be just and nice towards if they are not fighting us (same goes for idol worshiping parents), so how about a sin less than that? 
-Should we work with the LGBT community? Depends on a case by case basis, depending on the cause, etc. Sometimes wise, other times not.
-It has gone beyond just tolerating and accepting these acts. Rather, if we don't legitimize, we are being called intolerant, evil and bigots.
-We should be allowed the freedom to disagree without being called intolerant and work with similar minded faith groups
-We must educate our children our values and how to navigate through this society
