http://www.cincinnatichildrens.org Faculty Awards - Feb. 6, 2015 Clinical Care Achievement Award Christine White, MD, MAT Medical Director, Division of Hospital Medicine Assistant Professor of Pediatrics Be it improving physician communication, achieving hand hygiene compliance or developing fresh approaches to complex care, innovations led by Christine White, MD, MAT, mean that many patients are receiving safer care at Cincinnati Children’s. White holds several leadership roles here and has earned national recognition for improving inpatient systems of care. She launched “Night Talks,” an award-winning program that reduced overnight adverse events. She built a system that boosted physician hand hygiene compliance from 68 percent to more than 95 percent. She also led programs that achieved high success rates for medication reconciliation upon admission and for promptly discharging patients ready to go home. In 2013, White helped form a complex care team that dramatically improved efficiency by including pharmacists, dietitians, social workers and others on daily rounds. Now she is studying the potential benefits of nurse home visits for acutely ill patients. White’s outstanding efforts are improving outcomes at Cincinnati Children’s and are setting standards that other institutions strive to imitate.
