Gettysburg Monuments 050 - Equestrian Monument Statue to Major General Winfield Scott Hancock on East Cemetery Hill, Democratic nominee in 1880 for president of the United States. Hancock the Superb ran for president as the Democrat Nominee against Civil War Veteran' James Garfield in 1880. He lost the presidential election in one of the closest elections in history. He was also a Mexican War veteran. This monument stands honoring those who served in the American Civil War from July 1st-3rd, 1863 during the Battle of Gettysburg. Statue is at the Gettysburg National Military Park in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.
