Seven months after a jury was unable to reach a verdict, former Bastrop Sheriff Deputy Daniel Willis was back on trial for murder in the shooting death of Yvette Smith. This time, the jury box was empty as Willis pleaded not guilty to the charge before Judge Albert McCaig Jr., the judge who will determine his guilt or innocence.
