The annual shrimp festival in Mashike, Hokkaido (an hour north of Sapporo) featured the iconic Japanese carrying of the shrine, called the Omikoshi. The shrine is also known as "the Vehicle of God" and the people carry it throughout the city to praise the gods. This time it was used to thank the gods for the bountiful amounts of shrimp!
