I was a big racing game (automobile) junkie back when the PS2 ruled the streets. I decided to give this demo a try. Honestly, I wasnt expecting much from the Disney developers, and I guess I got what I expected in this demo. To make things clear, I am going to be reviewing the demo, not the gameso it has potential to improve before its official release.
Graphics are acceptable, lots of visuals to process as you are going through the course. The HUD is basically non-existent save for the lap and place tag at you cars bumper, which I do not like too much. As far as game difficulty and mechanicsthis video was my first attempt at Split/Second and I easily finished 1st. Therefore, the learning curve is not steep. As far as controls, I basically held the accelerator button the entire time, and never let go. I am a Gran Turismo fanboy, and therefore, was not too impressed with the driving physics of this game. Unrealistic drifting mechanics and ridiculously good handling made it too simplistic and not challenging enough. It is a valiant attempt to try and compete with the Burnout franchise, but falls so very short at attaining its goal. Explosions and shortcuts are fun, yes, but other games do it better.
Summary: It is a tween version of the Burnout franchise
Rent/Buy if: Youre desperate for a simple racing game and like blowing stuff up.
Pass it by if: You want a challenging game that has just as good graphics, better driving physics and isnt a rip off of Death Race.
