In March of 2012 a juvenile bald eagle was caught in a leg hold trap along the Yellow River near Spooner, Wisconsin on land belonging to the St. Croix Tribe of Ojibway. The eagle was spotted and rescued by Wesley Bearheart and his brother. The eagle was transported to the Gabbert Raptor Center on the St. Paul campus of the University of Minnesota. Damage and infection to one of the toes of the eagle required its amputation. After being rehabilitated it was released within a mile of where it had been found, by Wesley Bearheart, the man who originally found the eagle. Within seconds of its release another juvenile eagle spiraled down from the sky to check out this newly released eagle. Could it perhaps have been a sibling? We'll never know. Many thanks to all the volunteers who devote both considerable time and resources in helping magnificent creatures, such as this bald eagle.
