HENDERSON COUNTY, N.C. -- Fire officials are sending a warning about the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning after two Henderson County deaths over the weekend. Henderson County Fire Marshal Wally Hollis says the deaths of the Flat Rock couple due to the deadly, odorless, colorless and poisonous gas should be a wake up call. Friday morning, Anthony and Patricia Marino were found dead in their home on Cinnamon Way in Flat Rock. Investigators confirm the source of the carbon monoxide was a car in their garage, adjacent to their home. In Transylvania County, carbon monoxide poisoning claimed the life of 13-year-old Luke White on Dec. 24. His father, 40-year-old James Kelly White, was rushed to the hospital. White remains at Spartanburg Regional Hospital in serious condition. Deputies say the source of the carbon monoxide was a propane heater being used, which was not approved for homes. Hollis says taking extra precaution, especially as the temperatures drop, is key. "Carbon monoxide is a product of incomplete combustion and if you have a fossil fuel or carbon fuel for your house, say an oil heater, a gas heater, anything like that... Kerosene. It's imperative that you have a carbon monoxide detector," Hollis said. The fire marshal says one of the best precautions to take is to install a carbon monoxide detector in your home, which you can purchase one at a local retailer. Also remember to have your furnace or fireplace serviced at least once a year. For space heaters, follow manufacturers instructions and never start your vehicle in an enclosed space. _______________ Follow WLOS on social media: WLOS ABC 13 News on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/News13/ WLOS ABC 13 News on Twitter: https://twitter.com/WLOS_13 WLOS ABC 13 News on Instagram: https://instagram.com/wlos_13 Subscribe to WLOS on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/user/ABC13Channel/?sub_confirmation=1 Listen to AnchorMOMS, the Podcast: https://wlos.com/news/anchormoms/anchormoms-the-podcast Watch more top local news stories: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kk8Ge6UXHJs&list=PLkVbaoT-aYbIvnEpR0Ct5QQQqYaORUSUH For all of the day’s top local and national news, visit http://www.wlos.com Watch our live newscasts and other live video at https://wlos.com/watch Have a news tip?
