Hey guys, and welcome to behind the scene at The YouTube Space! We just finished shooting Cenk Uygur who interviewed supporters of Bernie Sanders’ presidential campaign: Rosario Dawson, Linda Sarsour and Nomiki Konst, it was absolutely an awesome event, check it out on TYT Interviews: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wQ6NRFQ-jUY But my day today was kinda interrupted by an email, I'm gonna put it up on the screen so you can see. There it is, it's from someone supposedly name Shaun: "Listen you fucking dirty liberal dyke c*** sucking bitch. Your video saying immigrants do not commit much crime, is a blatant fucking lie." Untrue, if you have a look at the video, you can see not only that do we have an abundant of sources in the comment sections at the bottom, but also it's kinda like a research consensus, there is no opposing data to suggest that immigrants commit more crime than American born citizens. So, I don't know where you're getting that from. Some of the highlights were, "I know you are a c*** because you wear The Young Turks t-shirt, because you are too fucking stupid to see the truth. You need to get cancer of your tits and c*** and die a painful bitches death, you worthless slag. Trump is no racist or woman hater, but I am." This just goes to show that crime and abuse can happen from any nationality, any location, anywhere in the world. It's not necessarily immigrants or other people that are risk to us. American citizens can be as abusive as anyone. And the second is, just by talking about science on the internet, it's kinda understood that I'm inviting abuse like this. It's kinda accepted that if you're gonna be on YouTube, part of the hazard of your work, is that you're gonna have people threatening you, abusing you and sending you nasty shit like this. And I don't care, I understand that is part of the job, but it shouldn't be that way. Here's another example from April Efff, just this week, April who is a YouTube personality wanted to talk about sexual misconduct that she suffered from Toby Turner who's another YouTube personality with a lot of fans. She had to open her confession about the sexual misconduct by saying how she knew she was going to invite a lot of hate into her life. I know it is this way and I accept that as part of what I do on YouTube but it shouldn't be this way. Why is it ok that just because you are on YouTube and you put your face on the internet, that people are allowed to abuse you verbally, and in some cases sexually. I don't think that there's a solution I can think of, but we really need to do something, so make YouTube a safer place. So let me know your thoughts on the comments below, what do you think that we should be doing. People can be traced and even if you go to all the efforts of hiding your email address and blocking comments and not having a twitter feed that people can tweet at you. You still can be traced and you still can be abused so there's no real way to protect yourself but how can we prevent it from happening.
