Biomedical engineering company Zetroz recently unveiled a miniature swallowable ultrasound device that can be coated with medicine a patient needs. Once the device is swallowed, it emits ultrasound in the patient's digestive tract to heat up the cell membrane and enhance drug absorption efficiency. The result is an absorption efficiency that is comparable to drug injection. The device may replace the daily injections that some patients needs - such as those with diabetes. SOURCES: New Scientist
