This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. In order to promote a vibrant community it’s important to not let the minor inconveniences impede you from meeting your overall goals. In this perhaps surprisingly engaging and humorous talk, John lays out the legal issues that can impede the development of creative, diverse and sustainable communities — and how to address them.


John Cappello is a partner at the Walden, NY-based law firm Jacobowitz & Gubits, on the Land Use/Environmental and Municipal Law teams. He has represented private developers in multi-phase and large-scale commercial, residential, educational and mixed-use land use applications. He has also served as attorney for planning boards and zoning boards of appeals throughout Orange and Ulster counties. John has presented programs in the Hudson Valley focused on steps local governments can take to encourage green development and create green jobs. He is also active in several charitable and civic organizations.
