Food waste has always been a significant problem for mankind.  However, it is an emotive subject whereby the extent, accuracy and resolution of available data on post-harvest loss and waste is questionable such that KPIs can be misinformed.

Reducing food loss and waste is a more tractable problem than increasing production as its solution is not directly limited by available land and water resources.  A new paradigm shift is required to better preserve and utilise food by using biological, engineering and management solutions.  Applying cross-disciplinary thinking across global supply chains is an essential element in the pursuit of sustainable food and nutritional security.  Where waste cannot be avoided then innovative engineering solutions are increasingly available to make use of it and add value.

With a focus on technological advances in reducing food waste and waste valorisation, this seminar will discuss how innovative research is helping to address these challenges, to quantify the risks and develop more sustainable approaches to mitigate the impacts on business and society.
