February 4, 2010, Washington, DC: Richard Baraniuk and I were proponents of the resolution "US Copyright Law excessively restrains the development of Intellectual Property" in an Oxford-style debate in front of the Association of American Publishers. This is my opening in the debate. The debate began with a poll. 53% (or so) opposed the proposition. 18% supported it. After the debate, 51% supported the proposition, and 41% opposed it. Big shift which we certainly didn't expect.
