This area is literally raining blood, but Ryu can still shake blood off his weapon. Not sure how he manages that one. Anyways, we fight a lot of the more monsterous enemies here including Gaja, Spriggans, crystalized Imps, and we finally encounter the Shadow Ninja fiend as a generic enemy, now buffed up and sporting a new color scheme. If you forgot, that's the same type that Rasetsu is, the first boss in the game. As we progress further we'll encounter a short cave area with poison water, bugs, and the worm-skull enemies. That doesn't seem too bad but I ended up dying there so that was a tad annoying. Once exiting the cave we'll reach a massive underground cavern leading towards a temple. Van Gelf suddenly start being enemies here along with the crystal Imps. In this area you can smash some pressure plates with a jumping triangle attack and cause some bone cages to drop down and open up, usually releasing a corpse or something with a goodie for you to take. Except... 29:17 - Quatzalcoatl - Smashing this pressure plate will release the optional boss, Quatzalcoatl. This was the original boss of the previous chapter that got replaced by the Black Dragon. It flies by you slowly for a few seconds where you can whack/slash it with your desired weapon and then spends the rest of the fight flying around lobbing fireballs at you. And that's...kind of it. Sometimes it doesn't even attack. Just take out your bow and keep firing, occasionally dodging when it finally remembers it can do an attack. I can kinda see why this guy was demoted to optional boss... After that we can head up the stairs leading to the temple. Doing so causes a TON of tier 2 Black Spider Ninjas to swarm you. It's kinda fun to just go to town slaughtering these guys. Further inside we'll meet more Van Gelfs, then get a chance to save and heal up before challenging the boss of this chapter. 39:15 - Elizabet - Elizabet is one of the harder bosses in the game. She's fast, flies, can chain into a grab attack with no warning, and just looooooves to auto-dodge majority of your attacks. She's got several combo attacks she can do, most of which will break your guard. Easily her favorite attacks are a combo where she tries to impale you with her tail three times and a move where she jumps back, then attempts to dash into you at high speeds. She has two grabs, one where she impales you with her tail and is almost indistinguishable from her normal tail attack combo and another where she does a swift right hook at close range. The tail you can sort of see coming, but the close range grab there's really no counter to other than not rubbing yourself against her disgusting exposed abdominal. While flying she also has a move where she will summon a globe of blood in front of her, then shoot forth blood spears from it as a ranged attack. Fortunately she doesn't do it very often...in this fight. You can avoid it just by running and dashing to the side but she's untouchable while doing this. I believe you CAN hit her but the second you do the blood spears will catch up and that's not a positive return as far as health goes so don't bother. I used the Lunar Staff against her and it worked surprisingly well for not being a very agile weapon. The range from the SST combo came in handy as it usually managed to clip her even when she did a back flip to do her dash attack. I think there are better weapons to deal with her, since the Lunar Staff tends to leave you pretty stationary against a very mobile boss, but it's not bad for Elizabeth's first fight.
