So I downloaded the Pokemon Gold beta. I'm pretty sure this is the first time I've played gen 2. I've played 1, 4,5 & 6. I was going to do another Deadly Towers video. But this came along so it will have to wait a bit. Not that many people besides me care about Deadly towers. ^^;; This is the debug version of the ROM. But a standard version is available. This leaked ROM is the demo shown at Space World '97 in Japan. There are a lot of marked differences as this is early in the development of the game. It contains numerous unused pokemon as well as two unused starters, Honoguma and Kurusu, who would be replaced by Cyndaquil and Totodile. Happa appears to just be Chikorita with a different name and stage two evolution. I decided to test the glitch egg because it was the last entry in the battle test and I was curious. These are the results. Glitch Egg is not meant to ever be used in battle. Its actual purpose is for when a pokemon is still inside an egg and hasn't hatched yet. It has no moves or battle sprite because you can't battle with eggs. Glitch egg will take on the data of its opponent. But having no moves assigned to it, Glitch Egg can only use struggle. Struggle is a default "move" of sorts. It's the only action a pokemon can take when every move is out of PP or the only moves left with PP require certain conditions meant that have not been fulfilled. No pokemon can learn it as a regular move. I believe Glitch Egg freezes in battles against itself because of how it handles data. There's nothing to take on but its own glitchiness. Interestingly enough no. 251 appears to be an early version of Leafeon (Leafia) named Leafi. I don't know if that's a misspelling or intentional. It looks a bit different and has roots for feet. In the final version of the game 251 would be Celebi. I don't know if Celebi's design was originally different or if this really is Leafeon. It didn't make an appearance until gen 3. But perhaps at some point Leafeon was planned for gen 2? I don't know enough about this particular gen so I'm just speculating. 187 is an early version of Skarmory called Yoroidori, which means "armor bird". It's final Japanese named is Airmd. I think Yoroidori sounds better than both final names. But you can change pokemon names anyway o it doesn't matter that much. One thing I didn't mention in the video: 252 is a glitch pokemon that is inaccessible in the battle test. Attempting to select it will cause the test menu to get glitchy. On a few occassions it even froze on me. I accidentally selected it before selecting Glitch Egg in my final battle segment. That's why you hear the confirmation sound and see the glitchy graphic appear at the bottom right of the screen. In the final game 252 is a psychic type glitch pokemon that can be obtained via the Celebi egg glitch and cloning. It can be evolved into Ivysaur then Venusaur. No idea what its original purpose was here. I'm thinking it is selectable in the battle test because it may have once served some purpose, much the 252 actually does. All my speculation is just speculation. I'm no gen 2 expert. My forte is Phantasy Star after all. :P Useful links: https://youtu.be/l6-cDCs3qpU Pokemon Gold Beta - Battle test with Glitch Egg https://youtu.be/Ju5i0Vo7c9Q Pokemon Gold Beta - Battle test with glitch pokemon 252 https://youtu.be/7LkLd3DU3Eo Pokemon Gold beta - Various Glitches part 1 (Surf & Turf) https://youtu.be/0FFb0OtZF5M Pokemon Gold beta - Various Glitches part 2 (Town & Country) https://youtu.be/Dkq6qHUr8Ms Pokemon Gold beta - Various Glitches part 3 (These Friends of Mine) https://youtu.be/CwiBPV45bQo Pokemon Gold beta - Various Glitches part 4 (Omake!) https://youtu.be/HeNgxQQ0j6E Pokemon Gold beta - Omake Special! https://youtu.be/yScvKxFPLAc Pokemon Gold beta - Omake Special 2! https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Pok%C3%A9mon_Gold_and_Silver_beta https://tcrf.net/Prerelease:Pok%C3%A9mon_Gold_and_Silver
