The spear worked out better for me in the horde room, despite not having as much attack as the Drake Sword.  But my Drake Sword was almost broken anyways since I didn't realize the R2 attack wrecks its durability.  Did I mention we played this almost completely blind?  We pretty much only looked up a few things, for the most part we walk into all the encounters blind and find the items blind.
