Thinking about switching to a premium engine oil?

A few years ago we bought a 2004 V70R from a local customer that had close to 180,000 miles on it The car had been modified with IPD parts to Stage II early in its life at around 40,000 miles. The 2nd owner put over 140,000 miles on it after the performance upgrades were installed that boosted the hp from the stock 300, to 365 HP. He was a product rep in the  performance  motorcycle industry and often towed an enclosed trailer that weighed over 2000 lbs. We thought that it would make a great test mule for us as it had lived a pretty harsh life and would give us some insight into what to expect in regards to what parts were  wearing out on these cars that might be opportunities for us to develop heavier duty versions of. The car has been a great project for us and is currently serving duty as the key player in the development of our highly anticipated 427 HP Stage III Performance Package. The car still looks and drives great and customers that have seen it at West Coast Volvo events are amazed to learn that it has well over 200,000 miles on it now! Anyway, the point of this story is that the previous owner ran TOTAL lubricants in the V70R and he attributes the incredible long life under extremely harsh conditions to the use of TOTAL synthetic lubricants.
