馃敶 Lessons form my Jazz Days
鈿獴rent Brookbush, Jazz Trombone, Solo on "Jazz Folk Song" by Walt Weiskopf (on Tenor Saxaphone)
馃憠 My Jazz career ended when I ruptured my Orbicularis Oris from excessive practice and performance (4 - 7 hours per day). I often get asked "How hard was that? That must have been terrible?... And it was, but not for the reasons you might think. I missed Jazz, but it was the loss of my identity that really put me in a tail spin. I went from being one of the very best at something, with hopes of being one of the big names in the field... To being... Well... I didn't know... It felt like I was all-of-the-sudden just nothing at all. It took immense work to get through that, and I'm great now, but those were some really dark days... It makes me wonder why we are so cavalier with the mental health of the athletes who suffer career ending injuries, the college stars who just can't quite make the pros, and even the mental health of professional athletes who have to retire. Maybe we could even add career changers to this list. My point is... I would love to see more mental health resources for individuals in forced transitions. Many of the traits that make people great at one thing are transferable to other things... And a reminder of that and guidance for those in transition should be available. 馃數 BrentBrookbush.com
