(4 Nov 2018) Iran's parliament speaker said on Sunday that US President Donald Trump is "too small" to be able to defeat Iran. Ali Larijani compared Trump to former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein, saying he has "waged a war" against the Iranian people, especially women and children. The Trump administration on Friday announced the reimposition of all US sanctions on Iran that had been lifted under the 2015 nuclear deal, ramping up economic pressure on the Islamic Republic. The oil sanctions, set to take effect on Monday, will target the country's largest source of revenue in the most punishing action taken since the Trump administration withdrew from the 2015 nuclear agreement in May, and will also affect Iranian shipping and financial transactions. Abolfazl Aboutorabi, a hardline lawmaker, said he hoped the sanctions were the beginning of a "big defeat" for America. Iran is already in the grip of an economic crisis, and has seen sporadic protests in recent months as Iranian officials have tried to downplay the sanctions and their effects.
