Achim Mohné was born in 1964 and studied photography at the Folkwang University of Arts Essen and pursued post-graduate studies in media at the Kunsthochschule für Medien in Cologne. Since 1998 he has worked as an independent artist in the area of new media. He has participated in numerous exhibitions, happenings, and projects, working with video installations, public interventions, computer-based communication, and surveillance technology. Mohné has received scholarships to work at the Villa Aurora in Los Angeles, the Kunststiftung NRW in Düsseldorf, and the Center for Land Use Interpretation in Los Angeles, and has taught at the Akademie Münster as well as at Indiana University, among other institutions.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.
