Bruce Bochy thinks Giants fans cell phone light trend is catching on

SAN FRANCISCO - It's growing...

On April 14, with the Giants nursing a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the seventh inning over the NL West leading Colorado Rockies, something strange started happening. With two outs already recorded in the inning, a group of fans in the upper-deck started to hold their cell phone lights and direct them at the field.

"I didn't know what was going on," Bruce Bochy said. "I thought maybe it was John Miller or Kruk or Kuip or somebody. It's similar to being at a rock concert."

The lights came on, and so did the Giants offense.

Brandon Belt was the first player up with the lights came on. He worked a 13-pitch at bat and hit a ball to center that scored Denard Span. The Giants followed with four singles and three more runs in the inning, all with the lights on.

Monday night, the first night game since April 14, the lights returned.

"The players are having fun with it," Bochy said. "I didn't know if it would be a one-time deal, but it's come back. So now it looks like it's starting to get contagious."
