The Show Low Shuffle (WCFO - World Canine Freestyle Organization sanctioned event)

Twix's 1st Canine Freestyle Competition:
Show Low, AZ
July 16 & 17, 2011
Twix - 13 months old
Level Beginner B (not anymore, he earned his Beg B title this weekend)

Obstacles:
Slipping on the floor - modified his routine to help him. He was still frustrated. I could tell because he might bark a tiny bit during his routines from excitement, but never this much. He did great!
A kid carrying a giant stuffed animal freaked him out. So, I borrowed the stuffed animal and played the check it out game with Twix and in seconds he was fine with it.
Thunder Storms on Sunday evening: Twix has never really been in Thunder Storms like the ones in AZ. Wow, that was a challenge, but we made it through. He was a little worried at first, but was able to calm down.

What I learned:
Have a back up plan! I am going to put together a carpet/slower routine together for events on slicker surfaces! Have a different routine for grass! :)

Highlights:
Meeting some amazing people that do canine freestyle!
Got to see other routines that I think I will steal some moves from. :)
Loved seeing how a CF Event was run. It was really great! Good set up for dogs!
Complements on how well he did. How he is not a Beg B dog. Compliments on many of his tricks. He was so well behaved in the crating area.
I was able to visit my parents in Show Low and they were able to come and watch me compete.
Twix had great energy and is so much fun to be with! We had a great time just hanging out together!

Things I will always remember! Playing with Twix in the hotel room every night! He learned to limp this weekend! :) Yep, got some video footage. We also worked on many new tricks. Had a blast finding parks with grass to play together! It was a blast doing the competition. I was a tiny bit stressed, but really only because of the floor and how he was slipping. I had all the confidence in Twix and that was so amazing! He did not even look at the audience when they clapped or yelled. He was focused! I will not forget how amazing my little guy was!

When we went to visit my parents and I parked my van in their garage, I let Twix out of his crate and the first thing he saw was my fathers tool boxes. They frightened him and instead of turning around to get back into his crate, he backed right up into his crate. He did not skip a beat, just wham right back up in the crate. I was wishing I had that on video! It was not good that he was scared of my parents garage, but we worked through it. It was just really cool how he could use his rear end awareness and with such grace. It was amazing.

I know that Twix will be an amazing freestyle dog! He already is and he is so young!

Have a great week!
