“The refugees who are here are not all hopeless”, says Ahmed, a Syrian refugee who taught himself the business of making falafels in Skaramagas refugee site in Athens, Greece. There are more than 60,000 refugees and migrants – most from Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan – living in refugee sites and other facilities across Greece. Some have been here for over a year. While they wait for their asylum applications to be reviewed, many are trying to build fuller lives in Greece.
