NOW in its third year, the QIPCO British Champions series begins with the 2,000 Guineas at Newmarket on May 4.

Bringing together 35 races, BCS covers five categories of thoroughbred -- Sprint, Mile, Middle Distance, Long Distance and Fillies and Mares.

For its first two seasons, BCS was able to use the remarkable Frankel as its poster boy -- Sir Henry Cecil's colt scored on British Champions Day at Ascot in October 2011 and 2012.

Frankel is now at stud, so challenges lie ahead as BCS strives to achieve its aim of bringing the best racing to a wider public.

BCS founder Sheikh Fahad Al Thani, Rod Street, Chief Executive of Great British Racing and Ascot's Nick Smith told David Yates of the project's progress.
