"I have three kids in school, I had to take them. We live in the village and there are no schools open here. Teachers don't come, and the Turkish planes are shelling this and the surrounding areas. Because of this no one even visits the village."

13. SOUNDBITE (Kurdish) Mohammed Salha, father of man killed in shelling:
"We're all from these villages, not that these people (those killed) had gone to a forbidden or a border area. I mean the distance between the main road and our village is less than 300 metres (328 yards). The place that these people were killed in is not even 300 metres away from the houses they were living in."

20. SOUNDBITE (Kurdish) Mohammed Salha, father of son killed in shelling:
" According to us, it is all because of PKK, (Kurdistan Workers Party). This Turkish government is coming and assaulting our people because of the PKK. If they were not here, what do the Turks have to do with our people? What do the Turks have to do in my village, killing my son and my cousin, martyring them. We condemn this and we're not accepting it. The fact is that our people are being killed here for no reasons."

LEADIN:
Several villages in Amadiyah, Dohuk Governorate have been left abandoned because of the shelling by Turkish army.
Locals claim the bombings have killed many innocent villagers in the area.
STORYLINE:
Dohuk is not as peaceful as it looks.
Turkish shelling has targeted this area - and locals they have killed many innocent people.
Out of fear for their safety, they are now leaving behind their lives and abandoning their homes.
They feel they are caught in the middle of clashes between the Turkish government and Kurdistan Workers party (PKK)
The closed gates of the abandoned Mizhe primary school say it all. 
Local resident Hussein Mohammed has three children in school. 
"We live in the village and there are no schools open here. Teachers don't come, and the Turkish planes are shelling this and the surrounding areas. Because of this no one even visits the village," he says.
Mohammed says he had to take his children out of school, because it was partially damaged by the airstrikes. He couldn't take them to the neighbouring villages or Amadiyah town, due to the harsh weather and heavy snow.
He and his family have no option but to stay and wait for the situation to improve. 
Mohammed Salham lost his son Ramazan and his cousin Dilovan in the recent Turkish airstrike. He visits their graves.
