Hollywood in the 1920s.
Across a choppy sea there is a beautiful beach. After a bumpy drive, you reach Hollywood, sunny and tree-lined. A man works a movie camera, as the director looks on, shouting instructions. The casting office, the director, the theatre and lights, the busy streets of Hollywood merge into one as the view of the cameraman. A child works a movie camera. Cars rush down Hollywood Boulevard. Theatres and bars are lit up, The Cat in the Hat, The Zulu, The Chinese, the places stars go to relax. And the studios, Mack Sennetts, Pathe, Warners, where they work. Hollywood, an aerial view. Seymour Burns strolls down the steps of his Hollywood home. He meets a friend and they take a tour of his enormous garden. The Ambassador Hotel. The tables outside in the sun are packed with fashionable men and women, chatting over cocktails and laughing together. Seymour starts to play the piano and girls crowd around to listen. There is much clapping. He finishes the piece of music and stands up to tremendous applause. Men shake his hand, and pose with him. Later on, Seymour arrives at the studio, looking suave, to check over his new sheet music. On the way out he meets friends who joke with him. On the lot, a set is being constructed, a fairy-tale castle. It is demonstrated how flimsy the structure is when Seymour puts his foot through the stone wall. He meets friends and plays the piano for girls to dance to.
